the world-famous lovell radio telescope, part of manchester university, is situated in the verdant cheshire countryside south of manchester. a fixture in the british consciousness since the 1950s, the dish recently starred in the film adaptation of 'the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy'. the dish itself is 76 metres (250 feet) in diameter. more information on jodrell bank can be found here.
